The Club Championships

The Club Championships are run every year and have done since the club began, with extra races being added over the years.
We have Long Distance races which are run on Fridays and Sundays and generally start in October, these are run early due to the time required to swim the races.  These races are for the 12 and under and the 13 and over, and generally cover the Senior, Junior and Transition squads.

They consist of:
Ladies 200m Breaststroke                                                    Men’s 200m Breaststroke
Ladies 200m Butterfly                                                           Men’s 200m Butterfly
Ladies 200m Backstroke                                                       Men’s 200m Backstroke
Ladies 400m Individual Medley                                             Men’s 400m Individual Medley
Ladies 200m Freestyle                                                          Men’s 200m Freestyle
Ladies 400m Freestyle                                                          Men’s 400m Freestyle
Ladies 800m Freestyle                                                          Men’s 800m Freestyle
Ladies 1500m Freestyle                                                        Men’s 1500m Freestyle

The main Championships are run over three nights they cover all the strokes and give the swimmers a chance to swim races of different lengths for each stroke (the 9 and under swim 25m and 50m and the 10 and over 50m and 100m).  A swimmer therefore has the chance to swim 10 races and this gives the swimmer the opportunity to get the required times for their age groups.

We have now made the Championships into a licensed meet by introducing a new recording system this enables the results to be included in the ASA ranking, the benefits are:
1) To swim at the Regional Championships you have to make the qualifying time and only times that appear in the rankings are accepted.
2) The county team manager uses the rankings list when picking the county team.
3) The swimmers can see how they rank against other swimmers by County, Region or Nationally.
